The "sin" of Witchcraft?
"Unfortunately, by the Bible's standards, many of the practices done by pagans dishonor Elohim. Again, I do believe this is using the Bible when and where convenient, while completely ignoring the rest."
I'm sure you would agree that we ALL do things from time to time that dishonor the Divine to some degree. A passage in the OT lists the sin of "witchcraft{" right up there with getting a tattoo and shaving or trimming a beard. The fact that most people today do not consider getting a tattoo or shaving a sin, seems to prove your statement about ignoring the parts of the Bible that are not convenient. I'm just curious ... do you feel that shaving dishonors Elohim too?
It would be very helpful if you would clarify exactly what behavior you mean when you say "many of the practices done by pagans dishonor Elohim". . In our previous posts we have already covered prophecy and fortune-telling, but quite honestly, very few of the Pagans or Wiccans I know claim to do this anyway. MOST are drawn to these paths simply because of their love for nature and animals. They have a deep respect for our Mother Earth and all living things. Like Moses, John the Baptist and Jesus, they feel closer to God on a mountain top, in the wilderness or even in the desert, and they prefer to seek divine guidance in these places. I understand and share these feelings, and I'm fairly sure it's not this love for nature that you feel dishonors the Divine.
I honestly can't think of anything significant the average Pagan or Wiccan does that Christians don't also do. When I began to follow the Wiccan path, I asked several Christians I knew to let me know if they caught me doing anything that the Bible said I shouldn't. So far, no one has identified ANY behavior in my life that is condemned by the Scriptures. You seem to feel that Wiccans and Pagans are living a sinful life. Perhaps you could clarify for me what practices we actually do that dishonors God.

I feel like I've already answered this? It's the acts of practicing divination, sorcery, fortune telling, spell casting, idolotry, and astrology, which the God of the Bible detests. These actions are prohibited under the strictest of terms in the Bible. Twist it any way you want, there are HUNDREDS, if not thousands more verses in the Bible regarding this than what I quoted on your previous post. I had begun the process of going trhough my Bible to quote them all here, but decided if someone wants to know what the Bible says regarding witchcraft, they can read it themselves.
We are not under a covenant of the Jewish law found in the OT, Jesus fulfilled the law established a NEW convenant. He told us during the sermon on the Mount how we are to pray to Him. He sent Paul to teach those desiring to live in that new covenant how to live a Christian life. The OT gives us amazing insight into the charecter and nature of God and it shows us exactly why we needed a Reedemer.
"MOST are drawn to these paths simply because of their love for nature and animals. They have a deep respect for our Mother Earth and all living things. I LOVE spending time in nature, that does not make me feel like I am any less of a Christian or that I desire anything other than Christianity, although it was quite the spiritual journey to get here, I have not always been a Christian.
This is turning very much into a pagan vs Christian discussion, which was NOT my intent. I felt you were taking The Word and twisting it into something it's not. That's the only part I have a problem with as I do feel like you are treading on Holy Ground. Like I said, if Christianity is not someone's path, that is fine, it's a free country.
As for your newest blog post. I know YOU don't see it as us worshipping different Gods and it's a matter of perspective. What I am saying is that I, and many Christians, do not see it that way. I understand the concept of what you are saying, I do. I know that your followers like to think people like me are speaking out of ignorance. Sometimes not agreeing with something doesn't make one ignorant, it simply means I disagree.
Also, the Christians I associate with DO NOT call upon angels when praying. Ever. Revelation 19:10 addresses this well. We are to worship and call apon Him alone, nobody else, not angels, not even the Catholic version of Saints, in my opinion.
When I post comments, my email address is included. I'm happy to continue this through email, but not here with your legions of followers.
As I said, I wish you the best, and thank you again.

Isabel, first let me apologize if my earlier comments sounded like I thought you were ignorant. From the beginning, I've been impressed with your knowledge of the Bible and only meant to share that my own understanding of some passages was different from yours.
I also stand corrected in my wording about you seeking the help of angels. I understand that you don't CALL upon angels for help. I should have simply said that many Christians have reported being helped by angels. The point I was trying to make was that God, the ONE true power, seems to help us through many different messengers or extentions. I have noticed that some Christians refer to these Divine messengers or "angels" by name, in the same way that Pagans name the "lessor gods" that help them, or Native American Indians name the "spirits" that guide them. I personally don't view these as different powers ... but rather as different ways to describe the help God sends us.
You have helped me pin-point our differences and better understand the concerns you have, and for that, I am grateful. It may surprise you to know that the Bible is my all-time favorite book and I have a deep respect for the wisdom it contains. We differ only in our understanding of some of its passages, or more specifically, in the definition of a few words. I appreciate that you were open-minded enough to visit here and listen to my views, and I truly wish you peace and happiness on your personal walk with God. ((hugs))

I think maybe it's that God does not want us to have other gods besides Him (from the first commandment)
Reply to this
I believe it says no other gods before Him not besides. That means that He is the God of Gods. If you do some study of ancient texts, that has been a big thing among the ancient gods. Anu or Anna was the God of Gods, the Father of the other Gods, but he gave the godship to his son Enlil. It was stolen and then fought over. This title has always been a big deal among the gods, just look at the story of Marduk. I don't think this commandment means that the Hebrews weren't supposed to have any other gods, they just weren't supposed to hold any higher than JHVH, but Christians do that every day by holding Y'SHUA in equal, if not higher, ranking.

The Creator, the God of Israel, the God of The Holy Bible, made all that exists, including all of the living or lifeless things, or mere ideas (i.e. any political philosophy that one lives by that is contrary to the Word of God, or any science that denies the existence of the Creator of all natural laws of science) that humans have made into "gods" - but which in fact are all merely objects created by the Creator.
Only the Creator has the power to be God; looking to anything, or anyone, else for salvation is literally a dead end. This includes anything that is deemed "more important right now" than worship and obedience to the only true God, or worshiping the true God in a manner contrary to His Word
"Other gods" have a contagious worthlessness - those who worship worthless gods become worthless in God's sight:
"Behold, you are nothing, and your work is nought; an abomination is he who chooses you." (Isaiah 41:24 RSV)
"But The Lord is the true God; He is the living God and the everlasting King. At His wrath the earth quakes, and the nations cannot endure His indignation. Thus shall you say to them: "The gods who did not make the heavens and the earth shall perish from the earth and from under the heavens." (Jeremiah 10:10-11 RSV)

By your own words you just stated that any Christian who prays to Jesus will not be saved because Jesus is the son of the creator & not the creator himself. In the Holy Bible Wasn't it Jesus who died to provide salvation to all who choose to believe? Since he died in this manner he is considered to be part of the "Trinity" (along with the Holy Spirit) of your "one true God", so actually your "one true God" is technically 3. If you say "The Lord's Prayer" you pray asking for protection & guidance from "The Father, The Son, & The Holy Spirit" not just to the Creator. Does that then mean that your worship is worthless now in "God's sight" since you are now praying & worshiping 2 others besides Himself?
Though your bible quotes support what you're saying they are only from the OT & are out of context. Those who use Bible quotes as support for their "only way" belief should be aware just as many Bible quotes can be used to support opposing views.

No other Gods before him? How does anyone truly know that he is not the only God? Most people have a God they worship and I think it's possible that we all worship the same God, no matter the religion. Your God could be my God by a different name. There are many religions with many different belief systems, but I have never seen any so widely criticized as the Pagan and Wiccan based religions. Is it the witchcraft involved? If that's the case, I don't understand, as there is magic all around us. We don't have to create it, it's just there. The way I see it,according to the Bible, even the birth of Jesus was not only a miracle, but magic.

The actual translation of the OT is, 'suffer not a poisoner to live.' it was changed by King James because he feared the english witches. Food for thought

May I ask where you can find the actual translation...such as this one? I know there are losses in translation, as well as purposeful changes, such as this. I am searching for truth, and more knowledge. Thanks!

If there are any modern Bibles with this translation I am not aware of. them You would need Bible software that contained the scriptures in their original languages, then Greek and Hebrew lexicons to help you translate. Pharmacopoeia is actually the Greek word that was used when that original passage was translated from Hebrew to Greek. It refers to a person who dealt with poisonous herbs and the closest English translation is "poisoner". The passage was condemning individuals who used herbs or plants in a harmful way and not those who used them to help or heal.

hi my name is Alex i am very new to wicca and i really like it. i have a big question and is not so sure that it relates to your paragraph however i couldn't find another place that would let me comment. one of my best friends found out that i am a wiccan and she claimed to be one too. However she started telling me things that i have never heard about. for instance she said that you could only be a Wiccan if u had the wiccan soul. i was like what. anyway then she said that she needed my blood for a ritual. that was something i had never heard of either. i didn't know what she was talking about so scared i refused. then she started asking every day. although i was starting to be completely convinced that she had no clue what Wicca was there is still my doubts like she does have a wand and an Altar and she also has blessed water. so now i am completely confused. anyway i went to school one day and on the bus she tried to cut me with a shark tooth and the scary thing was that it had a blood stain on it. when i asked hoe the blood stain got there she said that she had done this before. i still refused to give her my blood and then things got really weird. she made someone come and hold my arm down then she tried to cut me. luckily i was able to get free. she is still trying to cut me and my question is, does she know what she is doing like is she really a wiccan and are there any rituals that use blood? if so what are they for. like what do they do. if you met Izzy then you would know how.........different she is. i'm a little scared. please email me back
sincerely,
Alexandria

Greetings Alex! In my humble opinion, what makes someone a wiccan is what they believe in their heart. If you hold the same beliefs as others who follow the path, most would consider you a fellow believer. Your friend seems to hold some unusual beliefs. They sound more like a movie or TV version of wicca than real traditions. A true wiccan would not be trying to get blood from someone. ANYONE can have a wand or altar ... it doesn't mean they know how to use them. You might want to refer her to wicca.com for information about what wiccans actually believe and practice.

Hi Alex,
I do hope you still get this and it is not to long in passing to help you. Wicca is a beliefe not somethig one is born into. As for Blood letting NO Wiccan would try to take something with force so the fact she is trying to cut you shows she is NO WICCAN! further more I know of no rituals that use someone elses Blood or blood at all for that matter. I hope this helps, Blessed Be!

Hello Alex,
I have been a Wiccan for about three years (so by no means am I an old practitioner), and in that short time I have learned that Wicca is a very peaceful religion. Anyone who claims to be Wiccan and then turns around and demands your blood doesn't know what she/he is talking about. I have no clue what ritual that is truly Wiccan would demand blood, unless you decide for whatever reason you think it might further what YOU are trying to say/request from whichever aspect of divine you are doing the ritual for. Even then it isn't required. As a matter of fact, no Wiccan book I have ever read has any sort of 'blood' requirement for anything.
Like I said before, this girl doesn't know what Wicca really is if she is trying to FORCE you to give her blood. ("Do as thou will, let it harm none." or variations of that, but all have that same message, regardless. Note: HARM NONE...)
Sometimes it's best to just leave things unsaid to stay out of trouble. Be careful who you tell. Wicca is still having acceptance problems, but if you sincerely trust someone, I have found that rarely will they make fun of or put you through any crap, as it seems like this girl is doing.
If you are still interested in the religion, maybe you could research on the interwebz a protection spell or something to help keep her away, but don't expect that to do it on it's own. Stand up to her as well.
-Brittany.

i was raised in a christian family by my grandparents but at age 7 my mother gained custody of me and religon was something that she never pushed on me but simply let me make my own choices. so i simply began to drift in an out of churches trying to find where i felt i belonged. the more i went the more i realized that i did not belong in any of them. i have a hard time exspecially in this day and time beleiveing that im going to hell for some of the things they consider a sin. i got a divorce. i was told i was going to hell?? but my husband was abusive? so am i still going to hell? yep still going. ok. i get mad and sometimes i can make a sailor blush. im going to hell. but i was mad and i got over it and i didnt hurt anyone i was just letting of some steam. so your still going to hell! i tend to over indulge in some foods. but im not overweight. glutten your going to hell. geez give me a break. so i decided as long as i live my life and do the best i can to be a good person(help people who need help if i can) and try never to do anything that would cause someone else pain in any way. i dont think anyone is going to judge me as harshly as the church seems to think i deserve. live your life to its fullest and dont worry about looking over your shoulder because the people who are judgeing you have probably done alot worse in there past.

Dear tianne, I have to say that as a Christ follower myself I am sorry to hear you have been judged so harshly by others...the same has happened to me at many times in my life so I know how it feels...I also am divorced and have done many things that were less than ideal...but no one on this earth is perfect, nor does any person have the right to judge others. Unfortunately the self-righteous attitudes of many who call themselves "Christian" is really very damaging, and totally contrary to the way Jesus lived. In fact, throughout my life, even though I received Jesus Christ as my personal saviour when I was 8 years old, I have always had a hard time finding a church I want to attend regularly, and at the age of 48 I find I am still exploring other, more tolerant belief systems as well. I'm so glad I found this blog and read your entry. Like you, I believe that while we are here on earth we need to try our best to follow the Golden Rule, which is so similar in practice to the Wiccan Rede that I really relate to both: Treat others the same way you would like them to treat you, and as long as you don't hurt anyone, do what you honestly believe is best. I pray that each of us will find peace and joy in this life and that we can learn to fully trust in the perfect wisdom and endless love of our creator. There is so much joy and beauty in this world of ours!!...My prayer for you, tianne, is that you may receive deep and complete healing from all your wounds from the past, that you may feel richly blessed each and every day, and that you will know without a shadow of doubt that you are precious, unique and dearly loved, just as you are! Blessings!

Alexandria why have you not told an adult around you. Sounds like she needs some counseling. In all my 10+ yrs of being wiccan I have yet to come across anything that needs unwilling blood. Maybe she needs the website celtic connections to really figure out what wicca is all about. Also there is wicca and witchcraft, some stuff intermixes but there is witchcraft practices that are not part of being wicca. And it harm none so mote it be. follows all to insure the unwilling is not put upon by force anything

What the girl who tried to cut you is doing has nothing whatsoever to do with Wicca.
It sounds to me as if she has been reading about black magic where blood letting is practised. Even so it would be part of a ritual, not done on a bus.
Please speak to a responsible adult about this. It is very wrong of the girl to try and cut you.

Hi there Kardia! I'm new to Wicca and I have a question. I want to use forgetful spells 'cause I want my friend to forget something, but some people say it is a harmful kind of magic. Is it true?
Reply to this
If it is done without their consent, it could be considered as such. Think of it this way: You are trying to make their memories go away. They may WANT the memories. If you try to force it out of them, it not only probably won't work, but it can be seen as trying to harm them, even if that isn't your intention.
Depending on what it is, people tend to forget anyway. Memories fade. If it could be hurtful to you, well, try doing a protection or defensive spell instead. If not, just let it lie. It'll boil over eventually =3.

Interesting subject. I find the Bible full of hypocrisies. The 'sin' of witchcraft is one of those hypocrisies by modern day Christians. IE: Moses parts the Red Sea, Jesus turning water into wine. Angels, devils, demons are all spoken of as everyday warriors and heroes in the Bible, do those people and entities fall under the 'SIN' category? or not? I believe they should. No double standards should be in place if you take the literal and believe that we are created in 'God's' image. Ok hypocrisy abounds in anything so who's to say what is right or wrong? No offense to Jesus or Moses but they would certainly fall under witch. I have yet to be able to turn water into wine and I sure as heck cannot part a sea. What line did I miss getting into for these powers? Darn it I was in the reality line....come on witchcraft is the Bible..it is full of the Devine essence of the universes power over all.It speaks of one entity that is all powerful; and can make a planet? Pretty good mojo if you ask me. That's a biggy in the witchcraft world. So I guess all who follow God are witches too.Oh don't roll your eyes...open them and see the truth there in. If you believe that a man could part a sea then he is a witch. If you believe a man could be risen from the dead, he is a witch. I guess if it walks like duck and talks like a duck..it's a duck. Wiccans understand the highest power..the belief in one's self. To tap into that extreme amount of power is a responsibility not to be taken lightly. That power emanates from the universe. When one is with nature, one is with the universe. There are no spells, no magic, no pain, no suffering, just being one with the all powerful energy mass of life. It beats in our chests everyday. It runs thru our veins and we breath it. That's the devine right there. The Bible is a wonderful history book. But so much has been left out of it that sadly you get a muted version of the truth.
People need their beliefs, and as long as they are humane and civil towards one another what difference does it make? Really. If you believe you go to heaven when you die then live your life accordingly. If you believe you just turn to dust, then live your life accordingly. To judge me a sinner living my life as a witch, is to say that you don't believe in your God. Isn't that right? The truth shall set you free. As I said before, the Bible is full of hypocrisies. The truth of the matter is what you make of it and how you treat others because of it. I for one love the Wiccan Creed: So it shall harm no one or nothing...So Mote It Be...As above. So below....it's simple and to the point. No burning bush was available to talk that day when that universal law came down. Witchcraft is not a sin. It's part of our every day life whether you like it or not. It's a miracle that the Craft has survived. Oh wait..isn't a miracle an unexplainable present given from someone or something not of this physical realm? Oh dear... well I'm glad we are still here.....

My comment is,God is the Father, God is the Son, God is the Holy Spirit. If you think when saying this that you are honoring 3 Gods that's further form the truth, because God is All Three GODS.

i do so agree with Chris and say that if it may not be black magick and a bond in blond you seek that to should be done in a ritual... place. (lose of words) if she is a true wiccan(or pagen like myself) then she should under stand that. be sure to know what you say if it is indeed a bond for the goddess may take you on your word exactly.

I am a Christian and know that the world is full of magic. Some use spells and incantations to tap into this magic and others just have a natural ability to effect events and objects. I know that there is one source of this magic and that is God. He is the creator(done with magic beyond our imagination) and we are his creation/children, made in his image, so magic is in each one of us. I would like to know if there are others like me out there...

Here's why I believe major faiths refuse to become accepting of other spiritual walks in life, loss of control. Religions have been used for centuries as a means to control and influence public thought. There's no doubt that in the world we know today we are experiencing a spiritual individualist movement, where the practitioner of a faith needs no mediator for guidance and communion with a divine presence. My arguement against major religions is, if religion is such a necessary staple to live a righteous life then how come there's a separation between church and state? Our justice system does not prosecute individuals based on religious standards, but rather sound philosophical truths. I came from a broken home with a single parent upbringing and religion was never pushed on any of my siblings or I, despite the desperate situations we endured. My spiritual awareness was cultivated from inquisitive intellect and a longing for absolute truth. Sure it would of been easy to blame a devil for what was happening to my family and to lose faith in a caring omnipresent God, but my being knew that was flawed logic. I am 24 years old today, I have been walking the wiccan path for 9 years now and I must say it has been a highly satisfactory journey.

This is my first time here and this is my understanding of OUR Lord. He is a simply, kind and loving Lord. The world has made his love hard and judgemental, not him. He is and will always be the same, we are here to spead his love and he gave us the right to choice our paths to him; but, in the end all paths lead to him. To truly understand his word we must close ours eyes and open our hearts. I have not read all of the Bible, yet I understand his message. Maybe, its cause I see the world through eyes of a child, simply and beautiful. I am a 30yr old, stay at home mom and full time student working on my Master..

one thing i want to add about supposedly being able to "fortune tell". Didnt God use several of his people to forsee many miracles? like with the wise men about Christ being born? in my opinion to the christian ways it is not a sin to see a vision that was given to them. its a gift that was given to them, as far as i understand gifts are sins if they give us the ability to understand simplicities in our lives.

The only thing I would like to add to this blog is "practicing divination, sorcery, fortune telling, spell casting, idolotry, and astrology, which the God of the Bible detests"? Are you serious? What are profits? And the bible and Jesus raises them on high. Jesus believed in the profits. And what they did was fortune telling and astrology. Jesus also, praises most of the fathers in the old Testament Who practiced divination and spell casting although they called it something else. Under stand I have nothing against Christianity and I do believe in Jesus, albeit differently than Christians. I just wish people would stop condemning others by throwing the bible at them. One last thing I have spoken to catholic priests and they have said the bible is up to translation and is not literally. I mean no offense just to enlighten. Blessed Be.

Hi! i'm kinda torn between christian and wicca. you see, i can project my feelings into earth stones and the stones get hevier! i also can do ESP ... which is kinda freaking me out. when im angry or something and im in a fight i can actually command someone to do something, or when i'm calm everyone around me is calm and when im hyper everyone around me is hyper too.
I'll give you an example of my ESP; when a friend of mine was doing her monologue exam and she forgot half way through she had tears running down her face - which added to her monologue - i looked her in the eye and was reciting her next line in her head and she instantly remembered and continued! but i still believe in christianity at the same time i can use wicca powers! help me!?

I love that what you say makes so much sense to me, but of course everyone has there own opinions. I tried to tell my Grandmother the other day that certain other religions came before christianity...She didn't like that, but i think its interesting.....I've learned that your never going to help someone see something it what you think is the light, because they will always be blind to whatever they dont want to see...Maybe what we see isn,t the light either, just what WE want to see.

I believe we should have a section about light and darkness. Have you ever thought of the balance?
We cant have light without the dark, nor dark without the light.
I believe a war between these is coming as the dark tries to have the upperhand....
