WHAT'S THE IDEAL AGE TO BECOME A WITCH OR WICCAN?
Many young readers write us asking if there is a certain age they must reach before "becoming" Wiccan. One email read "I'm 13 ... is it okay for me to learn Wicca now"? Later that day, another asked "I've been Christian my whole life and I'm wondering if it's too late in life for me to change faiths?" We get a great deal of email from individuals asking for guidance on when or how they can become Wiccan or be a Witch. Is there a proper age to take up this path? I don't believe that age matters. What's more important, is WHY a person is drawn to a specific path.
Those who are drawn to these paths because they want to cast spells, control others or command the forces of nature, are seeking the old ways for all the wrong reasons. Most in this category are still in their teens or younger. Our late webmaster Herne wrote "Simply put, it doesn't make sense for the novice to want to command the forces of nature and the universe when you don't fully comprehend or understand them. To do so, only invites total failure or worse if you are successful in casting a spell or opening a portal and letting some nasty out to follow you around."
If you think you might be too old to change faiths, ask yourself if you're actually CHANGING faiths, or just finally embracing beliefs and practices you have always known to be true? In his article, Herne continues to write that "Many find the philosophies of how Wicca and Witchcraft view nature are the same as the one's they currently hold. They just didn't know there was a specific belief system that shared their views. If you've seen striking similarities between what you believe and what you've found in the old Earth-based religions, there are generally accepted ways to increase your awareness and find communion with others who feel the same. The following are the steps I would recommend to any one who wishes to learn more..."

I believe it should be the childs choice of when because making a child do something their minds are not ready for is the same as the Christian's path.
Have it around them, ask them if they would like to celebrate Beltain, explain that its a Celebration of those past before us. I like to have a feasting also and invite all passed to come join as they may, with this also fix a plate of food up and set it outside for those passing thru.

I have three children, ages 13, 7 & 7. They go to a Christian church with Dad when they choose and I am open about my beliefs with them. I allow them to choose what to believe. The Christian church drills it in their heads that there is only one path and I tell them to make up their own minds about what feels right to them. It's hard when children are so young and impressionable. I know I allow them to think for themselves but I'm sure the church is driving for total control. (I used to attend that church, so I know what this one is like.) There is a difference between educating your young and telling them what to believe. What happened to education?

Im only 14, and facinated in Wicca. I live in Australia and trust me, it is hard as there are hardly any Wiccans, let alone Pagans, here. I dont call my self "Wiccan". If people ask me what religion I am, I say that I am studying Wicca, not the I AM wiccan. I think that reading is the best way of learning and my favourite books are by Scott Cunningham and Thea Sabin. I sometimes worry that I am too young and that people may verbally attack me for being Wiccan, but belief is what really matters.I love your website and blogs. Please keep it up!

For those who are wondering what age is best to either be a Witch or Wiccan, your answer is, any age that you feel comfortable with the practice should be when you begin or change faiths.
The younger you begin, the more prosperous you shall become in the future with the practice, as well as being a Priestess, High Priestess, Priest, or High Priest.
Now then, if you are of another denomination and your intentions are to practice good Witchcraft, you may continue practicing your initial faith with that of Witchcraft.
"We The People", {Witches and Wiccans} have been sighted as bad throughout countless of decades, and for each time one of us was put to death, it was as simple as governed murder!.
From the 1400s to date, we are belittled as a result of both insubordinate and lack of education. We are forever called out as ugly and evil however, on All Hallows Eve, costumes are worn to make fun of and to insult us.
Our practice is clean and good, and we believe in the Lord just as anyone else. The problem is... those not so intellectual, can't except those [us] who are intellectual!.
Prime example, we were all educated of Caucasians having Negro Slaves but!, how many acknowledge that Negroes had Caucasian Slaves!. How many acknowledge that Negro females were treated twice as worse than Caucasian females, and why?... because the Negro female worked the entirety of both the home and fields without voting rights, the Caucasian female worked a little only in the home without voting rights. Both races of females were abused by their husbands and/or masters.
Now then, Witches and Wiccans were simply accused for associating with the devil and put to death. Male or female, our ancestors were simply put to death for no reason. A slave even had a reason prior to his death.
There's more to history than one believes, and we are part of it!.
For each person that doesn't believe in us, and calls us out as ugly and evil, they themselves are titanically and extremely unintellectual.
We aren't a gang, we aren't criminals, we are people just as any other human!.
Do you realize that if there were Pagan law today, over 78% of America would be dead!. No life sentences... death!!!.
Knowledge is powerful, as are we, but to be unintellectual is stupid and dumb, it is for those who don't and simply won't believe in us are the ones are so stupid, dumb and unintellectual.
We greatly are beautifiers and educators and we're great at it!.
Many different Denominations believe in the Lord, however there are those who don't. We believe in the Lord, we may practice a little different than others but we do believe in the Lord. There are numerous people who condemn us, and the majority of don't believe in the Lord. Why do I bring this up?, because our ancestors believed in the Lord, and numerous of them were put to death for it, at the town's governing hand[s].
If anyone wants to become a Witch or Wiccan, practice the religion good and be educative of the history.

I found this article quite interesting. I'm 13 and live in Australia and just like a previous comment stated, it's really hard to even find a fellow pagan or Wiccan or even like-minded. I've been going to the local library and reading a lot on many aspects of the Craft. I've also been surfing the web like there's no tomorrow. How else can I learn more about Wicca?

I would just like to say that for years i tried all aspects of christianity,i went to church, i read the bible etc... Nothing made much sence to me, i felt like i just believed it because i was told i had to, that there was no other way. So i started to explore other religions. when i was 12 years old i discovered wicca, i felt so at peace then that i knew this life was for me. Not long after my discovery, i found out that my family has had herbal healers in it for generations. After that I knew i was "home" in a sense. Ive been so at peace, felt so whole since i found wicca that i cant believe there was ever another way. So, i say, your never too young to convert. What matters is what makes you feel whole, and happy and fulfilled in YOUR life.
